Mimi was inspired by a combination of Azula (Avatar: The Last Airbender) and Regina George (Mean Girls). This influence is reflected in her composed cruelty, social dominance, and use of manipulation rather than physical force. The character was additionally inspired by a dream in which the creator and Frieza were close friends, forming the basis for Mimi’s genuine, long-standing friendship with him.
